Finally!!! Back home. That’s exactly how it feels. Coming home to friends and family. As always, the reception was warm. Nice to be picked up from the airport in person instead of a taxi being sent. Then you immediately feel welcome and well-received
Since I am here for the 4th time, my friend Janina asked me to write a blog entry about my stay here. It’s a bit difficult to get something on the white sheet right now, so let’s try structure and give it a title:
My first day of surfing:
8 a.m. breakfast on the roof terrace. What could be better than enjoying your coffee with a view of the sea? Along the way, I also get to know the other guests at the surf camp. They all seem nice and open. But somehow that’s normal, surfers are always nice and open
9 am Departure Finally, boards are packed on the roof, wetsuits in the cars. If everyone helps, it goes quickly. Aziz and Ismail, our surf instructors, quickly advise each other where the best conditions are so that all guests get their money’s worth, and off we go!
Today we’re going to Anza, jaaaaaaaaaaa…
What time is it? No idea, not important, high-tide is there, quickly, quickly, quickly into the wetsuit. And warm up. I’m a big opponent of warming up. I think it’s terrible to walk around the beach in a tight wetsuit. I’m not here to run, but to surf. However, the reasonable part in me actually gets the point. AND: even the professionals warm up with stretching exercises. Like good coaches, Aziz and Ismail are also adamant. Even on my fourth stay, my whining doesn’t help, I have to take part in the warm-up like everyone else. I surrender to my fate and get through the warm-up and technical exercises on the beach.
Always looking longingly at the sea with one eye!
In the beginning, Aziz meant getting up a few times in the white water. Then let’s do it. I’ll take the next one that breaks! The! Paddle paddle paddle, and stand up…. A little on your knees, turn slightly, jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I can still do it, haven’t forgotten it. My body still seems to remember everything.
And then time stands still. Paddle in, turn the board, paddle on the wave, get up, enjoy. It’s that simple. Like every time, I am gripped by a deep satisfaction, serenity, a feeling of freedom. Wow, I didn’t realize how much I missed all of this!
After every wave, I get a few tips on how to improve from Aziz and Ismail. “It was a good one, BUT…” I’m here to learn, get better. And they both know exactly how to treat the various guests in order to encourage and support them.
At some point everyone will start to get tired, it will probably be lunchtime. So get out of the water for a moment. Delicious sandwich! Janina is the world’s best sandwich maker! The packed lunches alone are a reason to come back again and again. And how sweet, she hasn’t forgotten that I don’t eat tomatoes! I could kiss her for it !!!
That is the reason why I keep coming back to Westsurf Morocco. These little touches. In any school with more guests, I would have had to say again first that I don’t eat tomatoes. You notice that here.
Rest a little after eating, digest. Then quickly back into the water for the second surf session. Time is no longer important, the only thing that matters is the sea and having fun. Until it is no longer possible. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves, comes out of the water very excited, everyone tells each other how strong the current is, what kind of wave they have stood, how much fun it is
At some point, everyone will be sitting happily on the beach with shining eyes but exhausted. Nice this mood. I know I repeat myself, but: I missed that too.
Sometime in the late afternoon (I think it is 5 p.m., but the time is so unimportant here), we go back to the villa. Shower, take a rest, and then do yoga.
That’s the best. This combination of surfing and yoga. The stretching exercises help to relieve sore muscles. The balance exercises are great for standing more securely while surfing. And you learn to focus on the moment. And the whole thing at sunset on the terrace. Is there a nicer place to do it?
After the yoga, there is still a program today. All guests of Westsurf Morocco go to Taghazout to eat together with Janina and Aziz. A nice idea. The mood is good, exuberant, you get to know each other better.
Sometime at 11, I’ll be back in my room in the villa.
I let the day go through my head one more time.
And think to myself: I am happy here. Namaste.
